OUR MISSION AND VALUES
Reduce water consumption
Fashion is a thirsty business; fashion is the third largest user of water globally after paper and oil
Why should we care?
Lack of drinking
water
Lack of drinking water
Over 750 million people in the world do not have access to drinking water. The industry currently uses enough water to quench the thirst of 110 million people for an entire year.
Desertification
Desertification
12 million hectares of land are lost every year to desertification, which has been described as the world's worst climate issue. Cotton needs A LOT of water to be produced and this ultimately leads to desertification. One example is the desertification of the Aral Sea, where cotton production has entirely drained the water.
Reduce waste accumulation
As fast fashion grows, clothing has become more disposable. A staggering 10,000 items of clothing are being sent to landfill every five minutes
Why should we care?
Breakdown of
waste system
Breakdown of waste system
Many of the disposed clothes are not being reused or recycled but being swamped. This leads to the formal waste system being at breaking point.
Polluting the
environment
Polluting the environment
These clothes are mostly not biodegradable. Synthetic fibres such as polyester are used in 72% of our clothing and these plastic fibres can take up to 200 years to decompose. As it rains, the microfibres used in the clothing can leak into the land and sea making it environmentally toxic.
Safety hazard
Safety hazard
The fibres on these clothes are also highly flammable, making them a safety hazard.
“Fast fashion isn’t free. Someone else is paying.”
